Ukraine Reveals Secret Underground Missile Plant and New “Peklo” Missile

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has unveiled a top-secret underground missile production facility to NATO Military Committee Chairman, Giuseppe Cavo Dragone. The facility is responsible for producing Ukraine’s latest missile innovation, the “Peklo,” an unmanned self-propelled guided missile, also known as a “drone-missile.”

The Peklo missile, which can strike targets up to 700 kilometres away at speeds of 700 km/h, was first made public in December 2024 when Zelensky handed over an initial batch to the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Since then, the missile has been used effectively in combat, targeting and disabling key Russian military and oil infrastructure.

Ukraine’s Minister for Strategic Industries, Herman Smetanin, confirmed that the Peklo missile has already proven resistant to Russian electronic warfare systems. Future versions of the missile are expected to feature improved warheads and upgraded guidance systems. Production of the missile is increasing, with NATO financial support helping to expand Ukraine’s missile and drone capabilities.

“We are grateful for the support our NATO partners have provided during these challenging times and appreciate their interest in our defence industry achievements,” said Ganna Gvozdiar, Ukraine’s Deputy Minister for Strategic Industries. “The Ukrainian defence manufacturing industry has a lot to offer in terms of advanced weaponry and is open to cooperation to help build the Arsenal of the Free World.”

The unveiling of the Peklo missile marks a significant step in Ukraine’s strategy to counter Russian military dominance. In recent months, Ukraine has successfully targeted Russian oil refineries and storage facilities, disrupting Moscow’s energy sector and forcing the Kremlin to divert resources to strengthen its air defences.

The missile’s development highlights Ukraine’s growing self-sufficiency in arms production, which is increasingly important amid the ongoing conflict with Russia. NATO’s interest in the missile programme further underscores the importance of Ukraine’s technological advancements in reinforcing European defence capabilities.
