RAF Typhoon Display Team Set for Stunning 2025 Season, New Thrills and Dazzling Airshow Dates Revealed!

The RAF Typhoon display team is gearing up for a high-octane 2025 season, with a brand new routine that promises to leave airshow crowds speechless. Under the command of Squadron Leader Nathan Shawyer, who takes over from Flight Lieutenant David “Turbo” Turnbull, the team is preparing to deliver their most exhilarating performances yet.

Having shadowed his predecessor at the tail end of the 2024 season, Sqn Ldr Shawyer has been hard at work designing a fresh display sequence for the upcoming airshow circuit. The excitement is building, with a thrilling new series of manoeuvres expected to captivate audiences across the country.

What to Expect from the New Display?

Typically, the Typhoon’s displays feature a series of approved aerobatic moves, showcasing the incredible capabilities of this powerhouse aircraft. This year, Shawyer and his team have gone above and beyond, ensuring a dazzling array of maneuvers that will leave crowds on the edge of their seats.

Every new sequence undergoes strict approval from aviation regulators, ensuring safety is always the top priority. This is why simulators play such a crucial role, allowing pilots to rehearse and perfect each manoeuvre before it’s ever performed in front of a live audience.

Training for Perfection

Training for the 2025 season begins high in the sky, with initial practice taking place at an altitude of 5,000ft. As pilots gain confidence, they progressively lower their altitude over the RAF Coningsby base, refining their skills and getting ever closer to the thrilling 500ft display height. Here, pilots execute daring level turns and heart-stopping flypasts as low as 100ft during their final rehearsals.

Once the display is perfected, the pilots undergo an extensive review, after which they are granted the official go-ahead to perform for large, live crowds, ensuring maximum excitement and safety.
