RAF Jets Scrambled Over Mid-Air Alert Off Scottish Coast

RAF Lossiemouth jets were scrambled yesterday after a civilian aircraft failed to respond to air traffic control (ATC), prompting a swift response from the RAF.

The Quick Reaction Alert (QRA) Typhoons, stationed at the base, were deployed to intercept the aircraft off the Scottish coast after ATC lost communication with the plane.

In a brief statement, the RAF confirmed: “We can confirm that RAF Quick Reaction Alert Typhoons were scrambled from RAF Lossiemouth today after a civilian aircraft failed to make contact with air traffic control.”

The incident triggered a standard QRA response, which is a routine but rapid measure designed to ensure the security of UK airspace. Thankfully, communications were re-established between the plane and ATC, and no further action was needed.

Though the situation was resolved without incident, the swift response underscores the UK’s commitment to maintaining airspace security at all times.
