Young aviation enthusiast Jacob Newson, known online as Jacob the Pilot, is set to make history today (March 22) by flying a Saxon Air electric aircraft. This special flight is a reward for Jacob’s incredible fundraising efforts for the Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund (RAFBF), having raised an estimated £55,000.
Jacob’s passion for supporting the RAF family dates back to 2019, when he first began his fundraising journey. His efforts have included various challenges, with his most ambitious upcoming event being a 200km cycle ride and a five-day wild camp across Germany in August 2025. During this trip, he will visit the five dams that were targeted during the iconic Dambusters Raid by 617 Squadron in 1943.
The RAF Benevolent Fund, which Jacob supports, provides vital practical, emotional, and financial assistance to both current and former RAF members, as well as their families. Jacob’s contributions to the fund have been recognised on numerous occasions, including a salute from the Red Arrows at the Royal International Air Tattoo (RIAT) in 2019 and a flight aboard a Voyager plane at RAF Brize Norton.
Jacob expressed his excitement about today’s flight, saying: “I’m very excited to have been given the opportunity to fly an aircraft this year and also feel very privileged to experience flying an electric aircraft, which very few people would have flown yet.”
His dedication to the RAF and its personnel is truly inspiring, and this flight serves as a fitting acknowledgment of his ongoing support. The RAF Benevolent Fund looks forward to continuing its support as Jacob prepares for his next challenge.
