Britain’s missile defence just got a serious boost, and it’s all thanks to Chemring’s Roke.
The UK Ministry of Defence has awarded Roke, the research and development division of Chemring Group (LSE:CHG), a massive £251 million contract to lead the charge in strengthening the nation’s missile defence. This deal, set to run over six years, is a major win for the company and an important step in safeguarding the UK and its allies from evolving threats.
Dubbed STORM, short for Science & Technology Oriented Research & development in Missile defence, the contract isn’t just about defending against today’s missile threats but also about staying ahead of the curve in countering advanced threats like ballistic and hypersonic missiles.
As the prime contractor, Roke will spearhead a collaborative effort, working closely with the UK Missile Defence Centre and various industry partners to develop cutting-edge defensive capabilities. The contract kicks off immediately, with Roke delivering a mix of its own innovative products and services while also overseeing contributions from other leading industry players.
Michael Ord, CEO of Chemring, hailed the contract as a testament to Roke’s expertise, stating: “This contract recognises Roke’s heritage in helping customers solve complex problems, and places Roke at the heart of the UK’s missile defence research and development activities.”
With global security concerns on the rise, this investment ensures Britain remains at the forefront of missile defence technology, protecting the nation and its allies against the threats of tomorrow.
