The Israeli military has confirmed it carried out a strike on two individuals in the southern Gaza Strip who were reportedly flying a drone.
According to Israeli forces, the drone had entered Gaza from Israel, raising concerns over the use of drones for weapons smuggling. This comes amid heightened tensions despite the fragile ceasefire that has been in place since last month.
Fatal Strike Near Rafah
Gaza’s Health Ministry reported that a 44-year-old man was killed in an Israeli strike near Rafah on Wednesday. However, details surrounding the incident remain scarce.
Munir al-Bursh, the director general of the ministry, revealed that at least 92 Palestinians have been killed and more than 800 wounded by Israeli fire since the ceasefire took effect.
Israel Defends Its Actions
The Israeli military stated it has engaged only when individuals violate restricted areas or approach Israeli forces, emphasising its right to act against potential threats.
Meanwhile, Hamas has accused Israel of breaching the ceasefire agreement, citing the recent Israeli strikes and restrictions on vital humanitarian aid. The militant group has even threatened to delay the next hostage release, a move that could further destabilise negotiations.
Ceasefire Under Strain
As tensions mount, the ceasefire agreement appears increasingly fragile. The humanitarian situation in Gaza remains dire, with aid organisations calling for unhindered access to essential supplies.
With hostage negotiations and military operations both escalating, the coming days could determine whether the ceasefire holds, or unravels entirely.
