Iran is ramping up its military strength with the establishment of new drone bases across the country, including in key border regions. This move marks a significant shift in the nation’s security strategy and highlights the increasing role of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in Iran’s defence capabilities.
Brigadier General Kiumars Heidari, Commander of the Iranian Army Ground Forces, revealed on Wednesday that the country has not only expanded its drone base network but also significantly upgraded them. Iran’s Army is now at the forefront of developing a range of advanced UAV systems, including precision-targeting drones and micro-drones tailored for various military needs.
Speaking about the newly established drone bases, Heidari stressed the importance of these unmanned systems in enhancing Iran’s ability to defend its territorial integrity. With long-range, smart, and precision-strike capabilities, these drones are set to become an integral part of the Army Ground Force’s arsenal.
Heidari also revealed that Iran’s growing drone production capacity is key to the military’s self-sufficiency. “We are now contributing to the Ministry of Defence in the development and production of drones, becoming a vital part of the country’s armed forces,” he said.
The new drone bases, particularly along the borders, are seen as a crucial part of Iran’s strategy to bolster its defence and improve its readiness against any external threats. This expansion comes as part of Iran’s broader military plan, guided by directives from Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, to enhance national security and strengthen combat readiness.
With tensions in the region remaining high, Iran’s increased reliance on drones signals a shift in the military landscape and could have major implications for security dynamics in the Middle East.
