A woman who was fatally stabbed on a busy street in south London has been named as 26-year-old Marjama Osman, the Metropolitan Police confirmed on Tuesday.
Emergency services were called to Frith Road in Croydon just after 9am on Saturday following reports of two stabbings in the area. Ms Osman was found with serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Although formal identification has yet to be completed, detectives said her family has been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.
Two men, aged 32 and 33, were arrested on suspicion of murder but have since been released on bail as enquiries continue.
Detective Chief Inspector Dave Whellams, who is leading the investigation, said the incident has sparked concern in the local community and reassured residents that a full investigation is under way.
“Our priority is to continue gathering the evidence we need to hold whoever is responsible for Marjama’s death to account, whilst supporting her family at this incredibly difficult time,” DCI Whellams said.
“Current enquiries suggest Marjama was assaulted inside an address on Frith Road before she collapsed in the street.”
Police have appealed for any witnesses or those with relevant information to come forward, particularly in light of community speculation surrounding the killing.
“We appreciate that there is speculation within the local community around Marjama’s death,” DCI Whellams added. “These conversations could lead us to getting the justice Marjama deserves.”
A post-mortem examination and formal identification are expected to take place in the coming days.
